The incidence of thyroid cancer has increased abruptly due to growing interest in health and to the development of easy and convenient diagnostic technologies. Moreover, thyroidectomies are being performed more frequently and the importance of managing and treating voice problems after thyroidectomy are being emphasized due to an increasing trend in the incidence of thyroid diseases. Unfortunately, many patients who had thyroidectomy complain of speech alterations such as hoarseness, difficulty of speech fluency and intonation following thyroidectomy. This book, Thyroidectomy and Voice, is prepared to make relevant information available to thyroid-head and neck surgeons and voice surgeons, but also to speech- language therapists.
This book is organized 22 chapters dealing with post-thyroidectomy syndrome, phonetic features after thyroidectomy and others. All surgical illustrations including endoscopic findings and data used in this book have been selected from a personal collection of my own researches and patients.
This book should be of value and served as a practical information to all who provide care to patients with thyroid and voice disorders, including thyroid-head and neck surgeons, endocrinologists, laryngologists and speech and language therapists in general.
