의학서적전문 "성보의학서적"의 신간의학도서입니다.
이 책은 3D 해부 사진을 근간으로 최적의 visual contents를 2D 형식으로 설명한 해부학 그림책이다. 머리와 목의 뼈대는 물론, 세밀하게 해부된 표본의 근육, 혈관 및 신경 구조를 잘 나타내었다.
이 책의 또 다른 특징은 단순히 맨눈해부학적 구조 만을 나열한 것이 아니라, 임상적으로 필수적이고 유용한 구조들을 해부하여 보여줌으로써 수술이나 술식에 도움이 필요한 임상의사들에게 기초적인 임상해부학적 자료로 활용할 수 있다.
2016년 1월, Albert L. Rhoton Jr. 교수가 세상을 떠나기 한 달 전, 나는 이 책을 그의 구상에 따라 과학적 사실에 근거한 양질의 결과물로 출간하기 위해 가능한 모든 것을 하겠다고 약속했다. 나와 Martinez-Soriano 교수는 그가 의도한 높은 수준의 목표를 달성하였기를 바랄 뿐이다. 이 결과를 판단하는 것은 이제 독자들의 몫이다.
이 프로젝트를 위한 대부분의 작업은 2011년부터 2013년에 걸쳐 이루어졌다. 당시 Rhoton 교수와 나는 플로리다 대학의 신경외과에서 함께 근무하며 현미경 및 내시경을 이용한 수술을 담당하고 있었다. 2012년 Thieme 출판사를 통해 해부학 책 출간을 결정한 후, 사진을 철저히 검수하는 과정을 거쳐 2013년에 이르러서야 해부학 구조물에 이름을 붙이는 과정을 시작했다. Martinez-Soriano 교수와 그의 동료 해부학자들은 영어와 라틴어로 수천 개의 해부학적 구조물을 꼼꼼하게 표시하며 수술해부학, 고전해부학, 국제용어를 통합하고자 하였다. (*라틴어는 원서에만 쓰여져 있음)
대부분 Rhoton 교수의 펠로우들인 10명의 연구자들이 각 주제에 따라 해부를 수행하였으며, 참여한 연구자들의 이름은 그들이 기여한 숫자에 따라 각 장에 열거되어 있다.
Rhoton 교수로부터 자주 들을 수 있는 단어는 “세밀하게(accurate), 조심스럽게(gentle), 안전하게(safe)”였다. 그는 정밀하고 세세한 해부를 통해 구명된 해부학적 지식은 수술의 정밀도를 높이는 방법이며, 이는 결국 환자를 위한 길이라고 말했다. 단 한 사람만이 이 책의 지식의 혜택을 누리더라도, 우리는 이 책을 집필한 목적을 달성한 것이라 생각한다.
